ChatGPT Just Blew My Mind

There are many things that I simply can't wrap my pea size brain around. I've always struggled at retaining bits of knowledge required to fully be able to master things. Call it ADHD, call it lazy, but some things simply don't "click" for me and I quickly lose interest and move on to whatever else I get distracted by. It is a curse as well as a blessing, let me explain why and get to what is really on my mind.

As you know, I've been hard at work developing a website which has grown significantly in scale and ambition ever since I started the project. As of now, I have a pretty good layout, some cool images and am working on implementing my media that is spread across many social platforms into one hub, one "app" to rule them all. That seems like a pretty simple thing to do but there's just one problem...I don't even know how to code a fucking "Hello World" document without crashing my computer. I'm in way over my head. And this presents us with a bit of a problem doesn't it Krew? Being a broke man with no free income to spare on a sad Fiverr website, I needed to get creative.

For the past few days, I've been scouring Google for some third party widget customizers like curator.io, walls.io, and embed.ly to embed my media. They are all good at what they do, but oh wait, they cost hundreds of dollars PER MONTH to use their widgets. I thought I was missing something at first, but no, these companies are charging an insane amount of money just for limited access to their little widgets. But this post isn't about them. It's about ME and my broke ass.

This is where my strongest (I'm my opinion) character trait shines: PERSISTENCE. If there's one thing I am good at, it's pursuing something I'm passionate about and stopping at nothing to reach that goal. So I kept digging and looking for another way. I happened to stumble upon an ad for ChatGPT doing something completely unrelated and that's when it all clicked for me.

Up until now, I have been using tools to help assist me in my web development and avoid having to touch any code or fiddle with networking. I use Google Sites for my main app, Blogger for these blog posts/archive, and Shopify for the merch store. So why not have a super smart (totally not sentient) program to help me code my embeds?!

Enter my new obsession: ChatGPT. I've never really used it for anything but have heard of that amazing things people have been able to accomplish using it, oh and it just so happens to have the ability to help you code. Bingo. This thing is truly mind blowing. It knows how to debug, reference specific APIs that I'm trying to implement and even help me write entire embeds after a brief description of what I am looking to accomplish. It helped me set up Google Cloud Services and connect a bucket (still don't know what that means) to my custom domain. This thing is now kicking out hundreds of lines of code for me and does it all and with surprising detail and accuracy. But hey that's all coming from a guy who spent 3 hours debugging one line that ended up having an incorrect parenthesis.

After a few days of getting used to and understanding how my new coding companion works, I'm ready to start embedding and really spicing up the website, or am I? Well not quite and this is where I realized that my ambition and scale has maybe grown too large for v1.0 of Krump App. It is giving me all this great code, but I am still having troubles getting these embeds to work after hours and hours of troubleshooting. The problem? Google Sites. Without getting too technical and making myelf sound dumb, Sites basically blocks all of the incoming API requests. What a bummer. I'm back to square one, but this time I have my friend, ChatGPT. So for now, I have decided to compromise and only do what I can with Google Sites. For those interested, I have been trying to embed fully interactive YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, and Instagram widgets where you would be able to watch new videos and livestreams all from one page while being able to fully use chat and interact with the channels. But, unfortunately, I think this and a few of my biggest ideas will have to wait until I have the resources to properly and fully deploy a website.

But, that wasn't even on the table for me before, I was more than happy with using Google Sites and these different services to create my vision. So what changed? Do I really need to say it again? It's ChatGPT. This bad boy changed the game and equipped with this Ace, I am fully confident that I can deploy a fully hosted website by myself with all the bells and whistles that I'm looking for. I'm confident because I know ChatGPT will be able to help guide me through setups, troubleshoot errors and always be able to point me in the direction of the resources I need. And this is something I've struggled with whenever using Google to look up resources or documentation on very specific questions that I have.

These AI chatbots are the future and the Internet continues to even the playing field for everybody. And this is just the beginning. Think of all the great ideas that have been lost due to lack of connections, or resources, or knowledge. We are inching closer to a world where "if you can dream it, you can do it" and that bodes well for the persistent guys like me.

So to sum things up. Krump App v1.0 is moving along nicely and I will be leveraging ChatGPT to finish some elements that I can't wrap my head around. I will be putting a lot of app features on the back burner for now as they are just not possible without a huge upgrade and even more downtime. But rest assured I have large plans for this chatbot in the future and fully intend on doing an experiment where I build a site from scratch with ChatGPT. When that day does come, I'll make a video documenting it all, as it will be very interesting to see how far it can get me. But until then, were gonna keep steamrolling ahead with this launch.

See you soon, Krew.
